How did 19th century sailors outwit pirates?

And how are those same methods being used – and improved – in the fight against pirates today?

Britain’s National Maritime Museum is filled with reminders of naval conflicts, from the American Revolutionary War, to the Second World War. But one war would outlast them all.  It began centuries ago and, remarkably, it’s still going on today – it’s the war on piracy. In the past few years, Somali pirates have hijacked hundreds of ships - from sailboats and fishing trawlers to one thousand foot long supertankers.

How do you survive sailing through pirate-infested waters? Find out on Museum Secrets: Inside the National Maritime Museum
